Flower & Plant Care Instructions
You’ve received a gift from us, now what? In order to get the most out of your floral arrangement, or living botanical, we’ve created a list with our top tips on how to make sure your flowers and plants stay happy and healthy.
Floral Arrangements
Flowers not only live off the water but also the oxygen in the water. Changing the water every other day will help make your flowers last longer. The water should always look clear. Now, sit back, relax and watch your flowers grow.
Wrapped Flowers
Give your flowers a fresh cut upon receiving them and arrange them in room temperature water. Change the water every other day. The flowers have already been treated with floral preservatives so no need for the extra “stuff.” Now, sit back, relax and watch your flowers grow.
Succulent & Cacti
Succulents and cacti are easy care plants for any home or patio. They are considered low-maintenance and are great for any first-time plant buyer. The most common killer of cacti and succulents is over-watering, A moisture meter is the only sure way to gauge how dry or wet the soil is. If in doubt, don’t water! Typically, we recommend watering them once every three weeks. Less is more when it comes to succulents and cacti. Trust us, your plants will thank you for it.
Planter Garden
– Your planter garden has been custom made for you and we want your planter to thrive.
– Your planter garden has already been pre watered, however, when your plants get thirsty, you will want to give them water by touching the soil with your finger. If the soil feels dry, they’re ready to drink, so go ahead and give them some water but DO NOT OVERWATER YOUR GARDEN. Overwatering can cause root rot.
-Signs of overwatering include: leaves browning and yellowing, leaf drop, and stems becoming soggy at the base.
-When your plants outgrow the container they’re currently in, you can transplant them into a new container.
Congratulations, you are now officially a plant mom/dad!
Plants
-How do you take care of your new plant baby?
Plants vary from each other in light and care. Some plants love light and others like to be in filtered light. Do not place your plant in direct sun as there is a vast difference between Florist and nursery quality. Plants from a florist are grown in greenhouses with filtered light.
-When should I water my plant?
Touch the soil! If the soil feels dry then give it a little water. Plants such as peace lilies will tell you when it is time to water them by their leaves drooping over, once you water the leaves they will perk right back up. Other plants are stubborn and will give you no sign that they are struggling. Touch is always the best method. Give a little water to the plant, if you feel it needs a little more, then add a little, but DO NOT OVERWATER as this can cause root rot. If you do overwater, your plant will turn yellow and mushy and start to smell like rotten greenery. If this happens, it is too late. Your plant has expired.
-Are plants safe around pets?
Keep all plants AWAY from pets, especially the cute little kitties. They love to sample the leaves. If this happens, you will notice little bite marks in the leaves and the leaves will turn brown.
Congratulations, you are now officially a plant mom/dad!
Orchid Plants
Orchids thrive in mild, warm and somewhat humid environments.. Optimal places for orchids to grow are near a windowsill or in bright, indirect sunlight. DO NOT PUT THEM IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Orchids need very little water. Give them 3 ice cubes (yes, ice cubes) once a week, placing them at the base of the plant. Orchids will suck up that H20 slowly but surely and keep them happy and hydrated.
-What do I do when all the flowers expire and fall off?
People tell us all the time how hard it is to grow orchids and how they can’t manage to keep them alive. We say to them: “After you harvest all the oranges from an orange tree do you cut it down?” The answer is no, you don’t!
Orchids are the same. When all the orchids fall off the spike, move your plant outside into a shady place with lots of airflow and you may notice a new spike growing from the old one. If this doesn’t happen within a couple of months you can cut the old spike off and next year you should get a new spike or even several spikes coming up.
Orchids are one of the easiest plants to care for. However, like all living things, they need food too! You can buy good orchid food at any home and garden store. Follow the instructions on the container to give your orchid plant the much needed nutrients it needs to thrive and give you new orchid babies.
